National Broadcast Academy closes 2019 set of training programme with a Graduation Lecture and Awards of Professional Excellence to Media Houses.
The Director, National Broadcast Academy, NBA, Ikeja has described Training and Retraining as necessary measures toward advancing talents and professionalism in the broadcast industry.
Engr. Ajibola Abiola stated this at a ceremony to wrap up the 2019 set of training programmes of the Academy.
The ceremony is a unique occasion in which the Academy gives awards for outstanding academic performance to past students of various courses within the 2018/2019 training calendar of the Academy.
The Director who commended the outgoing set of students for their commitment to learning during the programme, charged them to remain good Ambassadors of the Academy.
Engr. Abiola used the occasion to pass a few comments on the issue of hate speech describing it as negative media.
The NBA Director, while urging the graduands to be professional in their practice, noted that there is need for them to also take cognizance of vast opportunities being offered by digitization and the Internet.
One of the highpoints of the occasion was the graduation lecture delivered by Prof. Abigail Ogwezzy-Ndisika Head, Department of Mass Communication, University of Lagos.
Professor Ogwezzy-Ndisika stressed the need for all media professionals especially, Broadcast to embrace all it takes to promote democracy.
She explained that the media is critical to successful election because eighty percent of Nigerians depend on Broadcast Media, to make informed decision during election.
Professor Ogwezzy-Ndisika warned journalists to ensure they know the bases of what they are pushing out to the public.
The professor urged media professionals to shun relegion sentiment, personal interest and ethnic linage, in their reportage to enable them do their job professionally.
The Management of Academy also used the occasion to give special recognition to three television programmes and their presenters for quality contents.
They are TVC Journalist Hangout, Channels Politics Today and ABN Online TV .
The Director of the ABN online television, Mr Ifeanyi Okali, thanked National Broadcast Academy for the recognition. He said his company would employ one of the graduands.
The Producer & Anchor of Politics Today, on Channels Television, Mr Seun Okinbaloye noted that he would attach value to the recognition for the fact that it is coming from a media training institute.
The producer of Journalists Hangout on Television Continietal, TVC, Mr Kolade Otitoju, expressed delight for the award and promised that his Media station would identify talents among the graduands and engage them.
The Academy also honoured outstanding graduands with various awards.
Responding, some of the graduands, expressed gratitude to the management of the Academy for the knowledge they acquired during the programme.
The event was witnessed by the Registrar, Mr Emmanuel Inegbedion, Bursar, Mr Lucky Obarein, Director Physical Planning Mr Rilwan Umar, Deputy Director Academics, Mr Aliyu Ayodele, and the Deputy Director, Administration, Mrs Nkiru Okiche.
Others are the General Manager of Bond FM, Ikeja, Mrs Nike Adegoke, Heads of Academic departments and Staff members of the , Academy.
