The National Broadcast Academy (NBA), formerly known as the FRCN Training School, is Nigeria's premier broadcast institution, established in 1957, to provide in-house training for Radio Nigeria staff. The academy has evolved to become a leading centre of excellence in broadcast education, offering admission to broadcasters from across the country and beyond.
Over time, the institution recognized the importance of expanding its scope to cater for the broader broadcasting industry. In response, the school has undergone transformation to open its doors to broadcasters and non-broadcasters from various organizations.
Departments
The National Broadcast Academy comprises seven departments, each designed to cater for specific aspects of the broadcasting industry:
1. Digital Studio Management Department: Equips students with the skills to manage and operate digital studios, including audio and video production, editing, and post-production techniques.
2. Broadcast Engineering Department: Focuses on the technical aspects of broadcasting, including transmission, reception, and maintenance of broadcast equipment.
3. Presentation Department: Develops the on-air skills of broadcasters, including news presentation, programme hosting, and voice training.
4. Production Department: Covers the creative aspects of broadcasting, including programme production, scriptwriting, and directing.
5. Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Department: Provides training in the latest ICT trends and tools, including computer hardware and software, networking, and cybersecurity.
6. Marketing Department: Equips students with the skills to market and promote broadcast programmes and services, including audience research, advertising, and publicity.
7. Journalism Department: Focuses on the principles and practices of journalism, including news gathering, writing, and editing.
