Introduction

The Production Department is designed to prepare would-be and practising Radio programme producers for the challenges of contemporary Radio programme production and equip them with the wherewithal to excel in all aspects of the theory and practise of Radio Programme Production.

Aim : Programme Production is the hub of a Radio Station/Broadcasting, the Production Department of the National Broadcast Academy therefore aims at inculcating into would be and practising programme producers or content providers the resilience, creativity, resourcefulness and professional competence needed to deliver good quality radio programmes that can reposition a radio station inthe mind of the listeners such that they will be willing and attracted to tune to the station again and again.

Eligibility : The courses offerred at the Department are open to private participants who are self sponsored by broadcasting and related organizations. Paticipants should be Degree or Diploma graduates graduates of tertiary institutions in any discipline who have flair for Broadcasting. Secondary School Certificate holders with a minimum of five (5) credits including English Language who have at least five years of Broadcasting experience are also eligible.

A qualifying examination is often conducted for private candicates to ascertain their sutability for admission.

The courses are run in a three tier programme :

  • Basic Broadcast Production
  • Intermediate Broadcast Production
  • Advanced Broadcast Production

 

Basic Production

The course content is comprehensive and fundamental. It covers the following:

  • Fundamentals of Broadcast Programme Producton
  • Broadcast Programme Format
  • Trends of Broadcast Programme Production
  • The Broadcast Chain

 

Intermediate Production

This level or tier is intended for participants who have attended and passed the Basic production course. It is a highly intensive and practical oriented course/ The teaching/learning experience is interactive with practical exercises and projects for both the individual and groups.

The course contents include:

  • Script/Programme Writing and Editing
  • Programme Planning and Schedulling
  • Programme Appreciation
  • Indept Practical Production of the various formats
  • Media Law
  • Trends in programme production

Advanced Production

This is an elite course designed for senior producers, senior journalists and those who have acquired comparative skills and knowledge at the Intermediate level. The various class meetings are interactive and borders on sharing of experiences.

Towards the end of the course, participants divided into groups to conduct research and produce manuals on chosen aspects/topics of radio broadcasting. The entire programme culminates in a simulated broadcast which is the high pont of the course.
